Is The Life You’re Living For, Worth Christ Dying For? - Col 1:13, 14

13For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, 14in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. - Colossians 1:13, 14

Based on a true story, in the movie Taking Chance, a marine, Phelps Chance’s dead body, is escorted by a high ranking officer to Chance’s home town for an honorable ceremony and burial.  A fellow marine who survived the ambush, retells the story of how Chance sacrificially drew attention to himself by shooting a barrage of bullets on a turret, so that others can take cover.  His hometown heralded Chance as a hero.  His heroism forever changed the lives of the people.

It reminded me of how Christ intentionally, unjustly, fore-tellingly, lovingly, humbly, sacrificially, and gloriously - died for us.  Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection was not just a good story, it is the greatest of all - because it was for us, and for His glory.  It truly is a love so amazing, so divine!  Because of Jesus, we are now truly alive, most importantly, alive to God once again.  Our “DNA” is forever changed, in our thought-life, work-life, family-life, financial-life, social-life, etc!  The “aliveness” of the world, cannot compare to the “aliveness” found in Christ!

Sycomore, as a church of Christ, we must forever ask ourselves, as Leonard Ravenhill’s tombstone reads, “Is the live you’re living for, worth Christ dying for?”  May we be just as fierce in battle, as we are humble in friendship with Christ.
