“And every day, in the temple and from house to house, they did not cease teaching and preaching that the Christ is Jesus.” - Acts 5:42
This account came after the apostles were interrogated, put in prison, threatened, and flogged! In the chapters to come, there will only be more prisons, privations, and persecutions (and we think we have stressful and bad days!) - yet they will turn the world upside down for His Kingdom! Why? What did they have that we don’t have? What did they do that we aren’t doing?
Well, yes, the Holy Spirit set them ablaze. Yes, they met daily teaching and preaching that Jesus is the Christ, the Messiah, the Anointed One. Yes, they were constantly in prayer. Yes, they shared everything so no one was lacking anything. Yes, there was great boldness. However, the verse that stands out for me as to why is, “…We must obey God rather than men.” in Acts 5:29. “Obey” doesn’t mean just to follow, or listen, to God. It means to be persuaded of what must come first, which is God. In other words, that God has priority over you, and all happenings in your life.
Sycomore, may we become a church where God comes first, has priority, over all hardships and stresses in our lives!
