The Holy Spirit - The Gift of God: Acts 2:37, 38.

“Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Brothers, what shall we do?"  And Peter said to them, "Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” - Acts 2:37, 38.

If God has a gift, don’t you want it?  Not only was there a gift of salvation through the forgiveness of sins, but of God Himself to live inside of you.  I’m convinced, that we cannot be called followers of Jesus Christ, just because we recite a few words and say yes to them.  The question we must ask ourselves is this: “Does Jesus live inside of you?”  If He does, you will never be the same.

I have heard, that the true mark of the early church was not the cross, nor the fish symbol.  It was the cloven tongues of fire that rested on them: The Holy Spirit, the gift of God, God Himself.  And it was dynamite, power.  The Holy Spirit has power to “cut to the heart”, and convict a person - with fear and trembling.  The Holy Spirit has power to change and conform the most derelict and vile person, into a holy man, or woman, of God.

“He… lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory” - 1 Samuel 2:8

That beggar in the dunghill - that was me.  But the Holy Spirit so deeply worked in my heart, with love, conviction, and power, that I can truly say, “Jesus lives inside of me!”

Sycomore, will you allow the Holy Spirit to have His full way with us in the church?  Will you resist Satan, but not the Holy Spirit?  Let us join in such union with the Holy Spirit that His Mighty Power would convict us, and change - not our circumstances, or our past, or our suffering, or our hardships - but us.
