1:24 When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. 25 But he did not consummate their marriage until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.
Joseph, the father of Mary has always been interesting to me. As I contemplated the kind of man he was through the Scriptures, I couldn't help but notice that there wasn't a whole lot written about him. From what little is written about him, I think we could imagine the kind of father and husband he was - he seemed like a decent man and a man of integrity and character. But again, nothing much regarding those seemingly amazing things actually made it into the Holy text. But what did, however, was his act of faithful obedience.
Over the years, I've come to realize (and appreciate) the fact that steps of faith can only be taken as part of our relationship with God. And that should make sense being that faith and obedience, and surrender always go hand in hand - how can we do those things if we don't trust the one whom we are putting our faith in? You see, steps of faith are always taken as a response to God's prompting - that's why it always involves surrender and obedience. And those steps are never taken simply towards the fulfillment of some challenge or task. It's always towards God Himself. These two truths have helped me to take those steps of faith throughout my life. I pray that today be the day that you will hear His voice and finally take those steps of faith that you've needed to take... towards Him.
