"Jesus called his disciples to him and said, "I tell you the truth, this poor widow has given more than all the others who are making contributions. For they gave a tiny part of their surplus, but she, poor as she is, has given everything she had to live on."
Whether we are beginning in our relationship with Jesus, or we have grown in intimacy with Jesus, we get a sense that He always wants more from us. He wants everything. He deserves everything.
This poor widow gave everything she had though she was dirt poor. This giving was not just a giving to social justice or cause. It was giving everything she had to God - her heart, her security, her future, her life.
Jesus is teaching us that we are not to withhold anything from God, including money, time, and devotion. We are not to wait for a certain "perfect" situation when we can do this. We may be deceived to believe that we can give to God once finances are plentiful, life is comfortable - when we achieve some level of convenience. We are to give to God no matter what situation we are in - secure or insecure. Everyone of us is in a position to give God more than anyone who gives to Him combined, and that is by giving everything.
